Funeral services for David Armstrong, age 84, of Gillette, Wyoming will be at 10:00 A.M. on Tuesday, March 28, 2006 at Trinity Lutheran Church with Pastor Scott Firminhac officiating. Visitation will be from 4:00-7:00 P.M. on Monday, March 27, 2006 at Stevenson-Wilson Funeral Home Chapel in Gillette, Wyoming.Dave passed away on Thursday, March 23, 2006 at his home in Gillette, Wyoming of natural causes.David Tait Armstrong was born on July 6, 1921 in Toledo, Ohio to William and Frances (Tait) Armstrong. As a teenager he joined the Civilian Conservation Corp and traveled throughout the United States doing conservation work. In 1942 he enlisted in the United States Army Air Corp, where he was a radio operator and a ball turret gunner. Dave was stationed at many United States bases. While in Grand Island, Nebraska, he married Jeanette L. Lehman on November 4, 1944. He had orders to serve over seas when the early arrival of his twins came. The couple had four children. Dave started working for Continental Oil Company in 1945, as a pumper, in Lance Creek, Wyoming transferring to Gillette, Wyoming in 1960 as a maintenance foreman where he completed 38 years of employment. His whole life included playing mandolin and other string instruments with family and friends. Many people also have enjoyed his wood working creations from his scroll saw. His love for family and their get-togethers were some of his greatest joys.Dave is survived by his wife, Jane of 61 years, his four children: twins, Donna Heald of Gillette, Wyoming, David Jr. Armstrong of Denver, Colorado; Denise Shuster and Debra Armstrong both of Gillette, Wyoming: 7 grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren, 1 brother, Marty Armstrong of Texas; several nieces and nephews.He was preceded in death by his parents, 3 sisters, 2 brothers and son-in-law Chuck Heald.In lieu of flowers memorials are suggested to the Rheumatoid Arthritis or MS Foundation.
