Funeral services for Leona Peterson, age 90, of Casper, Wyoming, formerly of Gillette will be held 1:00 P.M. Friday, February 3, 2006 at the Mt. Pisgah Cemetery Shelter with Pastor Gordon Harper of the Vineyard Christian Fellowship officiating. Interment will follow in the Mt. Pisgah Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 5:00-7:00 P.M. on Thursday, February 2, 2006 at Stevenson-Wilson Funeral Home in Gillette, Wyoming. Mrs. Peterson passed away of natural causes on Tuesday, January 31, 2006 at Poplar Living Center in Casper, Wyoming. She was born on September 12, 1915 the daughter of Harry and Chloe (Smith) Eskew in Champion, Nebraska. The family moved to Wyoming in 1919, settling on a homestead southeast of Gillette, Wyoming. The first few years they lived in a ?sod house? with dirt floors. Her first eight years of school were in a one room neighborhood school. She graduated from Campbell County High School in 1932. On December 6, 1933 she married her childhood sweetheart and husband of fifty four years, Carroll Peterson. The couple lived on a ranch southeast of Gillette until they moved into town in 1972. She worked at the Campbell County Treasurer?s Office for twelve years. Leona was a 4-H leader for thirty two years and a member of the Happy Gap Homemakers Extension Club for twenty five years. Leona was an active member of the Campbell County Senior Center for over twenty years. She loved all of the activities at the center and learned to paint beautiful landscape pictures plus making many new friends. When her health began to fail in 2000 she moved to Casper, Wyoming to be close to her daughter and family. Leona enjoyed crocheting and made many beautiful doilies and table runners. She served as a judge for exhibits entered in the Campbell County Fair for several years.She is survived by her daughter; Doris and her husband Bob Ems of Casper, Wyoming; 2 granddaughters: Roberta and husband Clarence Salley and Colleen and husband Ron Morrison; 2 great granddaughters; 2 great grandsons, 1 step great grandson and many nieces and nephews.She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, 1 brother, Jerry Eskew, 2 sisters Emma Thomas and Delores Eskew.Memorials may be made in Leona?s name to the Black Hills Regional Eye Institute, 2800 3rd Street, Rapid City, South Dakota 57701 or to Stevenson-Wilson Funeral Home, 210 W. 5th Street, Gillette, Wyoming 82716 or via the internet at www.stevensonandsons.com.
