Memorial services will be at 11 a.m. Monday, February 12, 2018 at Walker Funeral Home. Ada M. "Sally" Rhoades, 99, of Gillette died Wednesday, Feb. 7, 2018, at Campbell County Memorial Hospital. Sally was born Oct. 14, 1918, at the LAK Ranch east of Newcastle, WY. Where her father Henry K. Beck was a ranch foreman. She spent much of her early life in Custer, South Dakota, where she attended grade school and high school. She lived for a time at Sylvan Lake in the Black Hills. Sally also spent a short time traveling with a ministry, helping with daily chores and singing in the church choir, where she developed her well known love for music. She learned to play several instruments, including the piano and guitar. Sally met the love of her life, Robert Rhoades in her early 20's which culminated in their marriage at Custer in 1940. World War II interrupted their marriage, with her husband serving in the U.S. Navy during the war. The end of the war brought many changes, including their move back to the Newcastle area, where the family opened a laundromat and two separate grocery stores. Following the growing activity in the Gillette area, they moved once again, this time opening a Ben Franklin dime store, which they owned and operated for 11 years. Sally finished her working career in the bookkeeping department of the Stockman’s Bank and Trust, where she retired. Her time with Stockman’s Bank fit well with her lifestyle, as she was extremely well organized, with everything having a specific purpose and location to be easily found. She was the second oldest of seven children, all who preceded her in death, namely; John, Bill, Pat, George, Harold, and Violet. Four children were born to Robert and Sally, Robert Jr. (Nancy), George (Margo), Walter (Karla), and Julie (John Chick). Two of her sons, George and Walter are deceased. After the death of her husband, her children helped her move into Primrose Retirement Community, where she made many treasured friends. She was the oldest member of the Primrose Community and yet managed quite well, considering her age of 99½. Sally had 11 grandchildren, many great-grandchildren, and several great-great-grandchildren, they were the apple of her eye. She will be sadly missed by her family and friends.
