Alvina Nadine Cudmore, 92 of Gillette, Wyoming passed away peacefully surrounded by friends and family on April 16, 2025, at the Legacy Rehabilitation Center.
Alvina was born on August 14, 1932, to Case and Elsie Zwart near Madison, South Dakota where she was raised on the farm with her 8 siblings near Howard, South Dakota.
Alvina married Everett Lemme in the late 1940’s and had five children, sons Milton, Martin, and Lonnie and daughters Barbara and Carol. She later remarried to Russell Cudmore in the mid 1960’s and they had two children, sons Russell Cudmore Jr. and Roderick Cudmore. Later, the two adopted and raised their granddaughters, Nadine and Natalie.
Alvina worked numerous jobs and had many hobbies such as macrame, baking, sewing, crafts and playing bingo. Alvina’s most enjoyable hobbies though were making photo albums for all new babies and also making her famous sugar cookies, macaroni salad, potato salad and banana muffins. Alvina’s most natural gift was being a caregiver to so many. She was happiest when holding a baby in her arms.
Alvina’s days were filled with many friends and family conversing over a pot of coffee or countless hours of conversations over the phone. She loved watching Andy Griffith and numerous game shows.
Alvina will be remembered by her generous spirit, her selfless acts of kindness, her spunky, ornery and joking personality as well as her motherly love. Alvina is preceded in death by her father Case Zwart, mother Elsie Zwart, husband Russell Cudmore, brothers William Zwart, Henry Zwart, Robert Zwart, sisters Ellen Kwallek, Carrie Hauff, Francella Vickery, Nancy Roeman, sons Milton Lemme, Lonnie Lemme, Roderick Cudmore, daughter Barbara Lemme, stepsons Ronald Cudmore, Jerry Cudmore, Jim Cudmore, grandsons John Herrera, Clay Lemme, granddaughters Toshea Lemme, Tracy Lemme and step- grandson, Michael Cudmore, great grandson Dijon Tyrel Carter and great- great granddaughters Adeline Long-Bell, Taytum Marie Martell, and Aliana Maldnado, great-great grandson DeQuincy Zachariah King-Duke.
Grateful for having shared her life are her sons, Martin Lemme and Russell (Lori) Cudmore Jr., daughters Carol Williams, Nadine (Damon) Decker, Natalie (David) Castle, step daughter Darlene (Bob) Sperling, sister Susan Jones, grandchildren Kelly Duke, Amber (Duane) Smith, Shannon Cortes, Chad Lemme, Tonya Chavez, Corey Lemme, Casey (Tracy) Lemme, Nicholas (Elizabeth) Lemme, Travis Jackson, Tyrone (Cheyenne) Jackson, Heidi (Craig) Campbell, Neil Sperling, Amy (Ryan) Williams, Brenda French, Jodi Somers, Mariah Stoterau, Jordan Wilson, Sondrae (Jacob) Spade, Ashley (Jeremiah) Zuraff and many great-great-great grandchildren as well as many beloved nieces and nephews.
A viewing for family and friends will be from 10:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. with the service starting at 12:00 p.m. and Kenna Rose officiating in Gillette, WY, at Gillette Memorial Chapel on April 21, 2025. A luncheon immediately following at the Community Room at Mt. Pisgah Cemetery in Gillette, WY.
A viewing will be held in Sioux Falls, SD on Wednesday, April 23, 2025, from 12:00 p.m. – 1:30 p.m., and funeral service will be the same day at 1:30 p.m. in Sioux Falls, South Dakota at George Boom Funeral Home at 3408 E 10th Street and a burial to follow at Woodlawn Cemetery at 2001 S. Cliff Ave. A luncheon at George Boom Funeral Home will immediately follow the burial at George Boom Funeral Home.
