Billy Lee Smith

Billy L. Smith, age 87, of Rozet, WY, passed away September 26, 2017 surrounded by his family.  Graveside services will be held at Rozet Cemetery 1:00 p.m., Saturday, September 30.   He was born August 9, 1930 in Fox City, OK to Joseph Daniel and Sophie Jane (Huffman) Smith. He attended school in White Oak, TX and graduated from Union Grove High School, Gladewater, TX and attended Kilgore Jr. College.  He joined the US Army during the Korean Conflict, serving from 1950-1953.  After his enlistment, he was employed by Southern Production Oil Company and moved to Wyoming with Sinclair Oil in 1960. Atlantic Richfield bought Sinclair and he continued to work for the company, retiring in 1985 after 35 years.  He was an active member of the AFL-CIO.    He married Mary Money on July 25, 1953 in Gladewater, TX. To that union 3 children were born, Linda (Dick) Stone, Rod Smith and Larry (Peg) Smith. Billy and his wife were owners and operators of Olds Wild Game Processing and Ark-La-Tex Landing in Shreveport, LA.  They gained numerous life-long friendships from these ventures. He enjoyed many hunting and fishing trips with family and friends.  He was preceded in death by his parents, three sisters and two brothers.  He is survived by his wife, children, and grandchildren: Bob (Shanille), and Tim (April) Burke, April Polk, Cody, Matthew, Cameron (Nicole), Kellen (Kalle), and Keaton Smith. and great grand-children: Lauren, Eryn, Jacob, Bailee and Catriona Burke, Adie Polk, James, Ty, Waylon and Sutton Smith. and brother, Robert B. Smith.  In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established in Billy’s name to benefit Campbell County Healthcare Close to Home Hospice.  Memorials and condolences may be sent in care of Walker Funeral Home 410 Medical Arts Court, Gillette, WY 82716.
