Charlotte Jean Stroud was born in Carthage South Dakoka on December 14, 1936 and passed away on January 15, 2023 at the age of 86 in Gillette, Wyoming.
Charlotte greeted all who met her with a warm smile and kindness. If you were lucky, you may have heard her infections giggle or beautiful singing voice. Char was a pioneer in many ways. She received higher education and had multiple careers in a time when women were often expected to stay at home. She was also a woman with a deep faith in God and made sure she volunteered and gave back to her church.
Char was proceeded in death by her brothers Daryl, Ivan, and Milton Brookbank; her daughters, Corinne (Cori) Carlson and Caylene (Caycee) Rivera; grandson, Curstain (CJ) May; great-granddaughter, Amaryllis Rarey, and her first and last love Morris Stroud.
She leaves behind her sister, Carol Bunch of Spearfish SD; daughter, Cathy May of Tacoma WA; grandchildren, Janessa Milhouse, Crystle Rivera, Ashley Merchen, Jamie Jonnassen, Carrie Rivera, and Camren Carlson. She is also survived by 17 great-grandchildren (including the two sets of twins she always prayed for), several nieces and nephews, and mourned by countless other who knew her as family.
Charlotte will be laid to rest in the Pleasant View Cemetery in the Summer of 2023 after a memorial service (TBD) in Mitchell, South Dakota. Memorials and condolences may be sent in care of Gillette Memorial Chapel 210 West 5th Street, Gillette, WY 82716.
