Gillette

DaVonne Lynn "Bonnie" Wangler- Barrett passed away on December 16, 2023 in Gillette, WY surrounded by her family and beloved pets.  Bonnie was a fun-loving and kind spirit whose laughter could fill up the biggest of rooms.  She showed a passion for her family, friends, and life and a love of Christ.  The void left by her departure is felt deeply by all those who loved her.  In our sorrow, may we remember and hold her forever in our hearts. Born on October 26, 1954 and raised in Mandan, ND, Bonnie was the loving daughter of Clem and Christine Wirtz.  Bonnie's sister, Lucile "Lucy" (Morris) Christianson, held a special place in her heart.  Their close bond from childhood was unbreakable throughout all of life's trials and triumphs.  Growing up, Bonnie had a passion for singing.  While at Mandan High School, she participated in band and choir.  She was a proud member of a select choir that performed at special events, and she had the distinct honor to sing a solo in front of the Governor of ND.  Throughout her life, she continued her love of singing and, on any given night, you might catch her singing karaoke at a local establishment. Bonnie was a loving mother and a devoted grandmother.  She was a cherished wife to William "Bill" Barrett.  Throughout her life, providing for her family was of utmost importance.  Bonnie showed an unwavering work ethic.  She began in a data entry position at Jennings Lumber Company before transitioning to an accounts payable clerk at Montana Dakota Utilities (Mandan, ND).  She then joined Northwest Information Services (Bismarck, ND) as a data processor where she remained for 13 years. Bonnie's journey took her and her family to Gillette, WY.  She worked as a scan coordinator at Buttrey Food and Drug by day and was the evening receptionist at the Best Western (Sands). Motel by night. She was employed there for 13 years before working as a scan coordinator at Albertson's. Her next venture led her to Dyno Nobel as an administrative assistant where she dedicated over a decade of service.  She then transitioned to First National Bank as an accountant in bookkeeping while also at the Country Side Water as their bookkeeper. When Bonnie was not dedicating herself to family and work, she enjoyed hobbies that allowed her creativity to flourish. Crocheting, still-life painting, woodworking on a lathe, baking, and reading were some of her passions.  She excelled at silhouette shooting earning a regional award.  Spending time with her family and friends was one of her greatest loves which could include RV trips, camping, and fishing.  Bonnie could also be seen giving back to others.  She volunteered at the local soup kitchen, rang the bell for the Salvation Army Christmas Drive, assisted at the senior center, and worked during the National High School Finals Rodeo. Her memory will forever live on in the hearts of her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Left to cherish her memory are her children: daughter Christina "Tina" Dilts, Gillette; son Paul Wangler (Shanen), Picayune, Mississippi; and son Steven Wangler, Gillette. Bonnie also leaves behind her adored grandchildren: Layne Dilts, Tristen Dilts, Daltin Dilts, Elizabeth Wangler, Kaiden Wangler, Tylor Harper, Courtney Wangler, Drew Wangler, Wade Morrison, Shelbi Morrison, and Katie Morrison.  She was also blessed with great-grandchildren: Bexten Dilts, Mazie Morrison, Sadie Morrison, Wylie Morrison, Landon Gantenbien, and Winrey Garnica which all added to her joy. In addition to her sister, Lucy Christianson, she leaves behind a niece Sara Wolfe, two nephews Jason and Michael Christianson, plus dear friends Karen Hanretty and Trish Palmer.  Preceding her in death are her maternal and paternal grandparents, husband Bill Barrett, and parents Clem and Christine Wirtz.
