Memorial service for Donald P. Gillette will be held at 1:00 p.m., Monday, February 12, 2018 at Gillette Memorial Chapel with Erik Bergquist officiating. Donald Perry Gillette 76, passed away on Friday, February 2, 2018 at Denver VA Medical Center from complications of surgery. Don was born to Donald (John) and Ethel Gillette on July 30, 1941 in Gillette, WY. He attended school in Gillette. He joined the Army in 1959, after his honorable discharge he drove truck for Bell and Mooney, worked for Campbell County Road and Bridge, owned Don’s Small Engine Repair in Gillette, and various other jobs. In 1965 Don married Shirley Paine, from this union a daughter, Danelle was born. Shirley had three daughters, Mary, Sandy and Linda that Don raised as his own. The couple later divorced and Don moved to Sheridan, WY. There he met Elaine Short, they married and were later divorced. Don was an active member of the American Legion, Eagles, VFW and Elks. For many years he was an active member of the Legion Drill Team. Some of Don’s favorite past times were fishing, hunting, and gardening; he definitely had a green thumb. He enjoyed playing on dart leagues, also enjoyed going to the west coast deep sea fishing, and going to the DeSmet fishing derby in Buffalo, WY every year. Don mostly enjoyed spending time with family and friends. Don is survived by and will be greatly missed by his daughter, Danelle (Danny) Muirhead of Gillette, WY; grandson, Skylar Muirhead of Gillette, WY; stepdaughter, Mary Knigge of Rozet, WY; step-grandson, Jason (Melissa) Paine of Gilbert, AZ; step-granddaughter, Melissa (Chad) Gideon of Rozet, WY; sister, Bonnie (Dick) Rich of Newcastle, WY; brother, John “Bub” (Marilyn) Gillette of Fort Collins, CO; nephews, Justin (Zannie) Rich, Garrett (Heather Filanai) Rich, Billy (Carol) Koch all of Newcastle, WY; Mike (Becca) and DeWayne Gillette of Fort Collins, CO; niece, Tina (Dave) Geer of Gillette, WY; aunt and uncle, Jackie and Dick Gissel of AZ. Don is preceded in death by his parents, John and Ethel Gillette; sister and brother-in-law, Nell and Bill Koch; Shirley Gillette; stepdaughters, Sandy Paine and Linda Paine; and grandparents.
