Donna Matheson, age 71, passed away on August 31, 2022 at her home from complications of COPD, with her family surrounding her. Donna was born in Gillette, Wy on September 5, 1950. Donna was the youngest child born to George and Alvina (Weaver) Sutherland. Donna married Delbert Matheson on September 13, 1967 in Rapid City, South Dakota. In 1970 they welcomed their first daughter, Stacey into the world and then another daughter Dulcy in 1971. Through the years Donna was employed by Ben Franklin and Pioneer Manor. From 1977 to 1979, both Donna and her husband, Delbert, ran mail for the Postal Service from Newcastle to Gillette, which they thoroughly enjoyed. Donna ended her career at CCSD as a school bus driver, and after 30 years, retired in 2010. There wasn’t a day that passed that she didn’t talk about how much she missed her students. Donna had various hobbies such as road trips and concert going with her sister (Eileen), camping, fishing on her pontoon and gambling. Donna will be greatly missed by her brother Jim Sutherland (Martha), daughters, Stacey Wilder (Kelly Guffey) of Gillette, Wy and Dulcy Strong (Tony) of Parker, Colorado. 2 granddaughters; Taylor Moen (Jared) and Kristan Krahn (Desmond). 2 grandsons; Trevor Wilder and Tanner Wilder. 3 great-grandchildren, Kora and Violet Moen and Jiraiya Krahn. Donna was preceded in death by her sister and best friend Eileen Hewgley, who passed 11 days prior to Donna; her husband, Delbert Matheson; both Donna’s parents and her sister, Anita Kain. A gathering of friends and family will be held Wednesday, September 7, 2022 from 5pm to 7pm at Gillette Memorial Chapel. Services for Donna Matheson will be held on Thursday, September 8, 2022, alongside her sister Eileen, at 1:00 pm, at Family Life Church with Pastor George Keralis officiating.
