Donovan Dee Criner was born on January 1, 1945 in Fairbury, Nebraska to George and Leona Criner. He was a beloved son, brother, husband, grandfather and friend who passed away peacefully on June 23, 2024 in Gillette, Wyoming at the age of 79. Criner grew up with a deep sense of duty and dedication to his family that would define his life. As a proud veteran, Donovan served his country with honor in the Army from 1966 to 1968. His time as a Deputy Sheriff and career at BNSF Railway were not just jobs but a passion, where his hard work and dedication left an everlasting mark. His colleagues remember him fondly for his integrity and reliability. His love for travel took him far and wide, with affection for Mexico, Canada, and his beloved Ireland, where he found joy in exploring new cultures and forging lasting memories. Above all, Donovan cherished his family. He was a devoted husband to his beloved wife, Connie of 30 years, and was a pillar of strength for his children and grandchildren. His home was a place of warmth and laughter, with love and kindness. Donovan's generosity knew no bounds; he touched countless lives with his selflessness and compassion, which included opening his home and heart to many foster children. Known for his vibrant spirit, Donovan had a unique ability to connect with people of all ages. He cherished the company of all walks of life. His friendships spanned generations, a testament to his youthful outlook and genuine interest in others. In the hearts of those who knew him, Donovan Criner will forever be remembered for his unwavering love, his infectious smile, joy for living life to the fullest, and the profound impact on others. He leaves behind a legacy of love, kindness, and enduring friendships that will continue to inspire and comfort those who mourn his passing. A memorial service to celebrate Donovan's life will be held at Lasting Legacy in Gillette, Wyoming on Monday, July 1, 2024 at 10:30 in the morning. On July 22, 2024, an additional funeral will be held at Endicott Methodist Church at 11:00 a.m. in Endicott, NE. with burial to follow. He is preceded in death by his grandparents, parents, brother Dallas, and an infant son, Derek and a great granddaughter, Ember. His legacy lives on with his wife, Connie, sister, Janice Troxel, brother, Delbert Criner, his children Deanna Martin, Kim Markwardt, Mike and Lisa Lowery, John and Sarah Ross, Roni and Tim Bell, Scott and Amy Mobley; grandchildren, great grandchildren, and nieces and nephews. Rest in peace, dear Criner. You will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
