Gary Leon Kay was born on September 18, 1944 in Manchester Ohio to Lewis and Ardona (Chandler) Kay. Gary talked a lot about showing his father’s prized hunting dogs as well as working in the tobacco fields with a plow and a team of horses at a young age. In 1960 Gary traveled west and worked at a few different ranches in Wyoming. He soon found himself working at the Geier Ranch where he met Louise. In 1966 he was drafted into the Army to go to Vietnam. He served till 1968 when he was discharged with The National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal and Expert Rifle Award. He returned to his job at the Geier Ranch after his discharge. In May of 1970 he started his job with the City of Gillette. Then in June 1970 he married Lois Louise Geier. They moved to Gillette and settled on a small place on Hwy 50, started a family of their own, and began raising Welsh Ponies. Gary was often a cook for a local hunting camp that he enjoyed doing. He was often called by many neighbors to help with any electrical issues they had, so he was known as the neighborhood electrician. A lot of people may remember Gary as playing Santa Claus while putting up Christmas decorations around town, a part he loved to play and missed when he couldn’t do it anymore. Over the next years they would have four children, go through some illnesses, but always had love. In 2007 Gary retired from the City of Gillette, giving him time to do odd and ends at home and play at different hobbies he had. Gary is survived by his son Trevor (DeAnna) Kay of Gillette, daughter Toni (Joshua) Diede of Moorcroft, daughter Tara (Scott) Brandenburg of Gillette, and son Travis (Jamie) Kay of Gillette, grandchildren Garrett and Hudson Kay, Kaylyn and Sierra Brandenburg, and step grandchildren Nathan, Brenden, and Devin Diede, sister Barbara Davis of Manchester Ohio, sister Helen Kay of West Union Ohio, and sister Sandra Sue (Roger) Mitchell of West Union Ohio, as well as many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife of 41 years, Louise, his parents and two brothers Bill and Jack Kay and sister Carol Persson. The family request that memorials be made in Gary’s name to Family Life Church. Memorials and condolences may be sent in care of Walker Funeral Home 410 Medical Arts Court, Gillette, WY 82716.
