Irene Elizabeth Hubbard

Mass of Christian burial begins at 10:00 a.m. Friday, Sept. 29, at St. Matthews Catholic Church with Father Bryce Lungren officiating. Burial will follow at Mount Pisgah Cemetery.  A vigil service begins at 6 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 28 at Gillette Memorial Chapel. Irene Elizabeth Hubbard, 91, of Gillette, passed away Saturday, September 23, 2023 at her home. Irene was born Feb. 29, 1932, in Midland, South Dakota, the second of four children to Robert & Ione Quatier. After graduating from high school in Midland, she went to Nursing School in Aberdeen, SD. Irene started her nursing career in Hot Springs, SD, then moved to Gillette where she met her husband, John Hubbard. They were married in Gillette on March 2, 1957. During their life together they had four children, Mark, Sandy, Joe and Russ. Irene worked at Campbell County Hospital, Pioneer Manor and from there she went on to Campbell County School District working as a school nurse. During her time at the school district, she went to further her education at Colorado Women’s College with her longtime friend Rosemary Shober, obtaining her bachelor’s degree. Irene enjoyed the outdoors, camping, hunting, fishing and gardening. Her and John spent numerous days at Keyhole reservoir in the summertime with friends and family. Irene was a devout Catholic and was involved with the church all of her life. Irene is survived by her husband John, sons Mark, Joe (Lori) and Russ. Grandchildren Katie, Brad, Shanna, Brandon, and Hunter. Great Grandchildren Skyler, Jadyn, Kyle and Ava and her sister Jean Hennies as well as numerous nephews and nieces. Her daughter Sandy, parents, Robert and Ione, brothers Roy and Butch, preceded her in death. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Gillette College Foundation to support the Nursing Program.  Memorials can be sent in care of Gillette Memorial Chapel, 210 W. 5^th St., Gillette, WY  82716.
