Funeral service for Jean Geer will be held at 1:00 p.m., Friday, October 6, 2017 at Gillette Memorial Chapel with Pastor Marty Crump officiating; interment to follow at Mt. Pisgah Cemetery. Visitation will take place from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., Thursday, October 5, 2017 at Gillette Memorial Chapel. Jean Rae Geer, 78, of the Savageton/Pleasantdale area south of Gillette, died at Powder River nursing home in Broadus, Montana on September 26, 2017. Born in 1939, Jean was the first child of Charles Slaughterbeck and Isobel Gentry Slaughterbeck of the small town of McFadden in central Albany County, Wyoming. Her brother Don joined the family when she was two. The family moved to Byron, Wyoming in 1944 where she attended school and graduated in 1957. She excelled in academics, was Class President, a cheerleader, and an active band and choir member. Jean married Keith Stone in 1957 and they had two children, Keli (deceased) and Mike Stone of Gillette. They lived in Riverton and Lusk before settling in Gillette. They divorced in 1965. Jean married Harl Geer in 1967 and they lived on their ranch south of Gillette. Jean and Harl had a son, Jerry Geer. Jean was a devoted wife and loved their life on the ranch. She nurtured their blended family, and enjoyed being a part of the Savageton community. After she and Harl retired from the ranch they became snowbirds for 14 winters in Mesa, AZ. Jean was a member of Family Life Church and loved her Pastor Marty Crump. She was involved in a Bible Study Group, an avid bowler in a women’s league, and the Friday night rural mixed doubles league. Jean was a member of of the Savageton Homebuilders Club, Pumkin Buttes Chapter of the Wyoming Archeology Society, and served as President of the Campbell County Cattle Women in 1981. She also was a horseshoe pitcher and was a State Officer of the Wyoming Horseshoe Pitchers Association. After Harl passed away in 2003, Jean often traveled with the First National Bank Heritage Club around the nation, and loved to play the slot machines in Deadwood, SD, and “win big”!! She often traveled to Laramie with Bob and Joan Geer to UW football games. Jean spent holidays and family gatherings at Jack and Kay Matheny’s house. Jean loved arrowhead hunting and collecting Indian artifacts. “Granny Geer” as she was called, often traveled around the state supporting her two grandaughters with their activities. As her body and mind started to fail, she spent her last years at Primrose Retirement Community and Powder River Manor. Jean is survived by son, Mike Stone; son, Jerry Geer (Sonja); grandaughters, Jessie and Abby Geer; grandsons, James and Martin Robinson; step-grandchildren; Blaine and Tracey Geer. Also surviving is her brother, Don Slaughterbeck (Joyce). In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorials be made in Jean’s name to Savageton Homebuilders Club.
