John “Jack” William Lownds, age 80 passed away on January 16, 2024 at his home in Gillette, Wyoming. The family will receive friends Saturday, January 27, 2024 from 1:30 – 3:30p.m. at the Campbell County Senior Center in Gillette, WY. John was born September 21, 1943 in Easthampton, MA to James Jordan Lownds and Carol Edna Watson Lownds. After attending Windsor Locks High School, in 1962 he enlisted in the United States Air Force. He married Mary Olson Lownds. Together they had six children. His career in the Air Force took him and his growing family to several locations including Hawaii, Germany, Greece, Washington, Montana, South Dakota and Wyoming. John completed his career with the United States Air Force on January 16, 1978. John and his family put down roots in Gillette, WY where he became a constant presence in the oil field community as a water truck driver. He was well known for his mechanical abilities to fix the unfixable. He could be found tinkering on his latest project car or playing pool at the Corner Pocket. In his later years he would continue to have project cars, play pool and could be found playing cards, chess and Yatzee. John is survived by his children, John (Svetlana) Lownds; Lana (TJ) Wesley; Kathy (Jeff) Cole; Connie (Chad) Hansen; Jason (Elisha) Lownds; and Jessica Dixon. Sixteen grandchildren and four great- grandchildren. First wife, Mary Lownds, second wife, Jenny Lownds, companion, Evelyn Holt and his dog Foxie. John is preceded in death by his parents James and Carol Lownds and brothers Glen, James and Donald. Burial services will be Friday January 26, 2024 at 1:30 at The Black Hills National Cemetery in Sturgis, SD. Memorials and condolences may be sent in care of Walker Funeral Home 410 S.
