Moorcroft

Kenneth Leroy Schelling, 89, of Moorcroft, Wyoming, was called to heaven on April 2, 2025. Kenneth was born in Mohall, North Dakota, on July 5, 1935, the third of six children to Robert (Bob) and Laura (Emerson) Schelling. He worked on the family farm, but once the lights were put on the tractors, he joined a seismograph crew, which led him 500 miles west to Chinook, Montana, where he met his future wife, Lois (Peterson) Schelling. They together moved to North Dakota and were married in Minot in 1954. To this union, they had four children. They traveled to many locations in Montana and Wyoming as Kenneth worked various jobs in the oil field, finally settling in Moorcroft in 1971, where they lived at the time of his death. Kenneth owned a backhoe service and also worked in construction, building houses in the area. His final job before retirement was driving a hot oil truck. Kenneth enjoyed many years of camping, watching his children and grandchildren participate in sports activities, and fishing at various locations, including Tie Hack Reservoir in the Big Horn Mountains. Kenneth is survived by his wife, Lois, of 71 years; sons Greg (Lindsey Beth) of Winnemucca, Nevada, Gary of Moorcroft, Wyoming, Jon (Gay) of Gillette, Wyoming; and daughter Dorrie (Delmar) Taylor of Gillette, Wyoming. He is also survived by his grandchildren Kimberly Fugate, Karmen Blackman, Scott Schelling, Justin Taylor, Jason Taylor, Ami Hanson, Ryan Schelling, Bethany Mueller, Kelcie Oltmanns, Jayde Williams, and Nathan Schelling; 40 great-grandchildren; and 6 great-great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his brothers Dick Schelling and Jim Schelling, and his sister Pearl Petersen. Kenneth was preceded in death by his brothers Marv and Gene, two granddaughters—Andrea Mills and Laura Schelling—a great-grandson, Cyrus Mills, his daughter-in-law Evonna (Blakeman) Schelling, and his parents Robert and Laura Schelling. A memorial in honor of Kenneth will be held at a later date.
