Lawrence Edward Kannegieter was born on December 27, 1935, to John and Laura Kannegieter in Estelline, South Dakota. He attended the Dempster Schools.

Lawrence and Mavis Kannegieter were married in Canby, Minnesota on August 26, 1955, and began farming on his family farm near Toronto, South Dakota. In 1970, his family moved to a farm near Canby, Minnesota until November 1976 when Lawrence accepted a position with the John Deere dealership in Gillette, Wyoming, and lived there until his death.

His most memorable positions were with the Campbell County School District as a mechanic for several years before being hired by the City of Gillette. He began employment with the City of Gillette in 1984 and was presented with a 20-year service award in 2004 when he retired. They came to love Gillette and so enjoyed all their new opportunities for more than 48 years.

Lawrence was a very accomplished guitar player who gave guitar lessons for more than 50 years and played guitar in the worship groups for the churches he attended. Additionally, he also played guitar with the Gospelairs, a Christian ministry group that traveled throughout the Midwest for several years back in the 1960’s and 1970’s.
