Leon Loring Oedekoven passed away peacefully at his home in Recluse, Wyoming, surrounded by family on April 7, 2019 after a short battle with cancer. He was born to Vincent Joseph and Laura Anna (Amende) Oedekoven on April 1, 1928 in Gillette, Wyoming. Leon attended Recluse School and completed 10th grade in Gillette. He was a member of the United States Army from 1950-52 and served as a medic in Germany during the Korean War. He was a lifelong rancher on the original homestead that he purchased from his father after his service to our country. February 14, 1969 Leon married the love of his life, Anne (Liz) E. (Leek). Together they raised 6 children. He loved gardening, tending to his buffalo, working on the ranch and spending time with his kids, grandkids, and great-grandkids. Preceded in death by his parents, Vincent and Laura Oedekoven; sister, Bernadine Rogers; brother, Dennis Oedekoven (died in infancy); father-in-law, Belmonte Leek; mother-in-law, Dorothy Leek. Survived by his wife Liz; children, Steve (Deb) Bossman, Oshoto, WY; Sharyl (Clifford) Oedekoven, Recluse, WY; Barb (Dave) Robinson, Recluse, WY; Dottie (Jason) White-Marcus, Rozet, WY; Malisa (Jim) Grantham, Tucson, AZ; Vincent (Sonny) (Paige) Oedekoven, Recluse, WY; 21 grandchildren and many great grandchildren; sister, Lorraine (Toots) Fortner, Biddle, MT; and many nieces and nephews. At Leon’s request, there will be no formal services. A family gathering will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to Campbell County Home Health and Hospice in Gillette, WY.
