Michael Wayne Means, age 63, a Gillette native, lost his battle with cancer at home with his family by his side on August 27, 2024.
On February 6, 1961, Mike was born to Robert and Marjorie (Christenson) Means. He has two brothers David and William, Mike being the youngest.
He grew up in "small" town Gillette, where everyone knew everyone, before it truly became a boom town. Mike was eager to work, and left high school to begin his first job with Dunbar Well Service. Mike was proud to buy his first truck, a black and silver 1979 Ford F250. Mike met Martha Dove and her daughter Erica in 1982, and soon after being married, in this union a son was born, Jerrod Scott Means. They later divorced. Mike then met his true love Vickie Lowry in 1986, and they have been together ever since. Mike had additional jobs throughout his life, however for the past twenty plus years he worked for DRM, as a backhoe operator, and then retired early.
Mike had many things he enjoyed doing in his free time. He would often spend time together with his loved ones, hunting, fishing, and camping in the Big Horn mountains. He absolutely loved the smell of pine trees and riding around for hours in his RZR. He was a devoted Chicago Bears fans his entire life.
He is survived by his wife Vickie, two brothers Dave; William (Cindy) Means; daughter Erica (Justin) Wood; Aunt Deb (Nick) Bassett of Houston, TX; Aunt Joan Dinsmore of Spavinaw, OK; stepmother Penny Means, and his many cousins, nieces, and nephews.
Mike is preceded in death by both his parents, grandparents, and his son Jerrod. Mike was a good man, and will be greatly missed and was loved by many.
