Mass of Christian Burial for Opal E. Callender will at 1 p.m. on Friday, January 14, 2022 at St. Matthew’s Catholic Church in Gillette, WY with Father Cliff Jacobson officiating; reception at the church. Burial will follow in Mt. Pisgah Cemetery. Opal, age 85 was taken to and gained her angel wings on Christmas eve, December 24, 2021 at her home in Gillette. Opal Edith Callender was born on December 7, 1936 to Joseph Mesteth and Christina (Standing Bear) Mesteth in Manderson, SD. Opal was the 9th of ten children. After graduation from high school she moved to Custer, SD then to Rapid City where she met and married Cyral Callender on July 2, 1957. The couple moved to Gillette, WY in the late 60’s and raised eight children. Opal was a CNA at Pioneer Manor Nursing Home for ten years and Cyral worked the oilfield till his death in 1979. Opal continued to care for her children and now has grandchildren, great-grandchildren as well as a few great-great-grandchildren. Opal was a kind, loving and generous woman, with a big heart and love for everyone. Even through her personal struggle with chronic pain she always had a kind word and a warm smile for everyone. She will be missed by all who knew and loved her. Opal was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Cyral. She is survived by her children, Donna McClaren; Sherman Callender; Ronda Torres; Cyral Callender; Darrell Callender; Ronald Callender; Julie Glazier and Lisa Wiley, 24 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great-grandchildren.
