Patricia Maxine Fitch- Laramore, a beloved member of the Gillette community, passed away peacefully on December 14, 2024, in her hometown. She was born on April 28, 1927, in a humble setting on the Fitch ranch four miles east of Gillette to Ed and Zelma Fitch, during a snowstorm, delivered by a midwife due to the inability of the doctor to reach her mother. Pat grew up on the Fitch family ranch, located 27 miles northwest of Gillette, where her childhood was steeped in the traditions and stories of ranch life. With only limited trips into town—made by horse and buggy—she fondly recalled her mother and grandmother narrating tales of the Native Americans in the area, stories that both fascinated and frightened her in equal measure. Patricia was a dedicated scholar. She graduated from Campbell County High School in 1945 and pursued higher education at the University of Wyoming, where she earned a degree in Education in 1949. Her teaching journey began at the small rural Croton School, where she ingeniously combined her duties as both a teacher and a ranch hand by driving the feed wagon to school, allowing her to tend to the livestock along the way. Throughout her career, she imparted knowledge at multiple institutions, including Echeta School, Wild Horse School, Lakeview School, Central Elementary, Eastside School, Wyodak Rural School, and Rozet Elementary, ultimately retiring after an admirable 35 years of service in education. On her journey of life, Pat married Bob Laramore during her college years. Together, they welcomed two children, Kit, born in 1953, and Kandy, born in 1955. The family made the crucial decision to move into Gillette when Kandy was in the third grade, enabling their children to receive a proper education while Pat continued her teaching career. Beyond the realm of academia, Pat was deeply engaged with her community. She exemplified the spirit of a ranch wife, contributing tirelessly as a ranch hand, cook, and timer for local rodeos. Her commitment extended to her involvement in organizations such as the Girls' State Selection Committee, the American Legion Auxiliary, and she was a dedicated member of Eastern Star for over fifty years. Pat’s passions included cooking and baking, which delighted family and friends alike. Her green thumb flourished in her cherished garden, particularly with her beloved roses. More than anything, she held a profound love for the family ranch, a place she cherished deeply, along with the joy her grandchildren and great-grandchildren brought into her life. Patricia is survived by her two children, Kit Laramore and Kandy Barton; Darren Barton; her treasured grandchildren, Jeff Sanders, Carrie Barton, and Brady Barton, Sheridan, Riata and Kellen Little; her great-grandchildren, William and Michael; and many special friends. She is preceded in death by her devoted husband, Bob Laramore, and her loving parents, Ed and Zelma Fitch. A Celebration of Life will take place at 5:00 p.m. on January 17, 2025 at American Legion Post #42, located at 200 Rockpile Blvd, Gillette, Wyoming. Patricia Maxine Fitch- Laramore leaves behind a legacy of love, education, and dedication to her family and community. She will be dearly missed and cherished by all who had the honor to know her. The family request that memorials be made in Pat’s name to benefit Hospice of Campbell County. Memorials and condolences may be sent in care of Gillette Memorial Chapel 210 West 5th Street, Gillette, WY 82716. Condolences may also be expressed at www.gillettememorialchapel.com
