Pete Luthy, 60, passed away peacefully at Campbell County Memorial Hospital on Saturday, December 9, 2017 after losing his battle to cancer. Pete was born October 31, 1957 in Lovell, Wyoming to Albert and Peggy Luthy. As a young boy he spent a short time in Meeteetse, Wyoming before the family moved to Cody, Wyoming where he was raised. Pete graduated from Cody high school in 1976. He later attended college at Concordia University in Seward, NE and the Art Institute in Black Hawk, CO. Pete had two sons, Justin and Matt, from his first marriage to Cathy Nieters. In 1990 Pete’s life took him to Gillette, Wyoming where he took a job as a car salesman. It was here that he sold a car to Barb Wideman, who would later become his wife. Pete and Barb then had a son, Tanner. Pete prided himself in his work at the car dealership and the coal mine, but more specifically with the opening of their family company, 5L Drilling, in 2005. All three sons helped their Dad in the operation of the company. Most mornings Pete could be found at the local Village Inn enjoying coffee with the boys. Pete was also very active in the fellowship of the AA community where he enjoyed sharing his own story of experience, strength, and hope. Although he didn’t speak much about his faith, he could often times be found in the garage reading and sharing the Big Book. Then there was fishing. Between Florida, trips up North Fork, camping, and rafting, Pete always made the outdoors a family affair. The man behind all the memories and family stories was well known to most as “Old Man River”. Pete was a man of high standards and morals. One of those in particular was being on time. Barb did a great job of testing this standard regularly, showing how strong his love was for her. The two of them spent quality time traveling to places they mutually loved. Whether it was trips to Cody, Devils Tower, Florida Keys, or somewhere in between they always found time for a cup of coffee. Pete was preceded in death by his father, Albert Luthy and sister, Terri Ann. He is survived by his mother, Peggy Luthy; loving wife, Barb Luthy; sons, Justin (Katie), Matt (Amy), and Tanner; two grandchildren, Olivia and Aubrey, brother, Paul (Sandy); nephews and nieces; Tyler (Amanda) and Chelsea Drake, Parker and Skyelar Luthy.
