Susan Marie Baker, 73, of Gillette went to be with her Lord and Savior Saturday, June 29, 2019, at Rapid City Regional Hospital in Rapid City, South Dakota.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, July 10, 2019 at the High Plains Community Church in Gillette, WY. Pastor Dan Morgan will officiate, and following the funeral the burial will take place at Mt Pisgah Cemetery. Public viewing will be held from 4-7 p.m. Tuesday, July 9, 2019 at the Walker Funeral Home in Gillette.
Susan was born September 21, 1945, in Toledo, Ohio, to Charles Donald Willis and Betty Ella Frosch.
At the age of 17, Susan married Kenneth Baker on January 12, 1962, and raised two of her sisters after the unexpected loss of her mother, Betty Frosch. After raising her sisters, she then went onto raise her three children, Jeff, John, and Kenna.
After raising a family of her own, Susan went onto be the legal guardian of her grandson Alex, and played a significant role in the upbringing of her other grandson Austin. Throughout her whole life, she devoted her life and unconditional love to those she cared about.
As a born again Christian, Susan devoted the majority of her life to God and his teachings. She led many Bible studies over the years, and devoted a countless number of hours to the church.
She loved fishing, and her favorite place to go fishing was Nipawin, Saskatchewan in Canada. For many years, there was a family tradition to go there as a family every summer.
Susan is survived by her spouse of 57 years, Kenneth Baker, children, Jeff, John, and Kenna Baker, brother, Charles Junkins, sisters, Patricia Passantino, Ruth Peden, and Julia Whalen, and grandchildren, Alex and Austin Smock, Travis and Bobby Baker.
Above all, Susan loved God and her family. Throughout her life, her actions demonstrated she loved God with all her heart, and her work ethic was exceeded only by her love of the ones she cared for. She was a great woman. Memorials and condolences may be sent in Susan’s name in care of Gillette Memorial Chapel 210 West 5th Street, Gillette, WY 82716.
