Susan Diane (Hast) Ullrich was a loving mother, wife, friend, and a faithful servant of God. Known for her kindness, generosity, and positive outlook on life, Sue joins her heavenly Father to share her faith in heaven. Susan Diane Ullrich, 68, of Gillette, Wyoming passed away peacefully on Monday, March 11, 2024, surrounded by family. Susan was born in Iowa on June 20, 1955, to Vernon and Delores Hast. She was raised and attended high school and college in Iowa before moving to Wyoming in 1980. Sue graciously worked in healthcare for 40 years before retiring in 2020. Her years working at Campbell County Hospital were spent caring for patients as an emergency room nurse and later as a patient advocate in the management department of the hospital. She adored her career, and it was never work for her as caring for people was truly her calling. Susan met the love of her life, John Ullrich, and they built a beautiful life together. They were married on August 21, 1980, and spent 43 years raising a family, traveling, camping, site-seeing, enjoying grandchildren, and growing in their faith together. John and Susan Ullrich have two sons who brought joy to their lives. As young boys, Nicholas and Matthew were adventurous and active, always keeping mom and dad on their toes. Together, Joan and Sue created a wonderful life and didn't miss an opportunity to create memories as a family. Nick married his wife, Toni, in 2001, and Matt married his wife, Ashley, in 2015. These unions brought John and Sue’s daughters-in-law who they loved unconditionally as their own children. Nick and Toni of Gillette, Wyoming gave birth to Logan Jacob Ullrich on September 23, 2004. Logan and grandma enjoyed baking, building forts, playing at the park and reading books together. Logan and grandpa enjoyed watching movies, shooting guns and bows, knife collecting, yard work, getting into mischief together, taking risks only boys could take, and talking for hours about God, life, and all of their dreams. They shared a bond that Logan will cherish forever. Matt and Ashley of Casper Wyoming gave birth to Sloane Olivia Ullrich on May 10, 2022. Sloane and grandma enjoyed reading books, playing with toys, sharing snacks, watching cartoons, and visiting about all things girly. Sloane unfortunately didn't have the opportunity to meet and spend time with her grandpa John, so grandma shared many stories and loved her for him. The short time that grandma spent with Sloane filled them both with a joy that could only be felt, and not described. Both of their faces were consumed by an ear-to-ear smile whenever they were together. Susan had a giant heart for animals and couldn't turn down an opportunity to love a pet. She leaves behind 3 dogs, 2 cats, and a fish that were a part of her family. Her pets loved her very much and knew she always had a treat readily available. She always treated her grandpets as family too and they enjoyed trips to grandma's house. Susan had a strong faith and loved Jesus full heartedly. She attended church regularly and when she couldn't be there in person she joined online. She kept many devotionals, enjoyed studying God's word through bible studies, and shared her faith and knowledge whenever possible. Susan loved to travel, paint, quilt, do puzzles, participate in marathons, go on bike rides, walk a beautiful trail, camp, hike, and she was an adamant reader of all books. She never passed an opportunity to try something new, go on an adventure, or live for the moment. Because Sue loved adventures she always made sure that friends and family took part in her journey which created many memorable memories for those she loved. She will be greatly missed by many but her kind heart, giving disposition, contagious smile, and optimistic nature will live on in each of us that were blessed to know her. Susan is preceded in death by her mother and father, Vernon and Delores Hast, as well as her husband John Ullrich. She is survived by her children and their spouses, Nick and (Toni) Ullrich, Matt and (Ashley) Ullrich, grandchildren, Logan and Sloane Ullrich, her brother and his wife, Tim and (Ann) Hast, as well as many nieces and nephews. There will be a memorial service to honor and remember Susan on Monday, March 18th at 2:00 at Walker Funeral Home in Gillette, Wyoming. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Nick or Matt that will be used to build a memorial in Susan's honor at the cemetery for all loved ones to visit.
