Tex Craig Iverson

March 20, 1949 — October 27, 2017

Memorial service for Tex Iverson will be held at 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, November 1, 2017 at Gillette Memorial Chapel with Pastor Marty Crump officiating. Tex C Iverson 68 died Friday October 27, 2017 at his home in Gillette Wy of complications from congestive heart failure, and diabetes. He was born in 1949 to Martin Inman Iverson and Eileen Marguerite Miller in Vermillion S.D. He grew up in Mechling, South Dakota with his brother Terry and his sister Jan. He was a rambunctious boy and kept his parents on their toes. This was a quality that would follow Tex through the rest of his life. He attended school and graduated from Vermillion High School. He attended Lake Area Technical Institute and studied drafting. From his first marriage, a beautiful daughter Kori was born in 1974. In the 1970’s He moved to Sturgis, SD where he met and married Sandra Hunter. In 1979, they moved to Gillette Wyoming and it would become their permanent home. In The 1980s, he was blessed with 2 boys, Cody and Travis who would give him a run for his money (karma as some would say). In 1990, he went to work for Buckskin Mine, where he would retire from in 2013. There was never a dull moment with Tex around, always telling jokes, talking politics and even pulling a few harmless pranks. He made lifelong friends at the mine, that are treasured to this day. Tex lived for his hunting and fishing. He served as president of the Wild Turkey Federation for several years. He spent many years showing his sons the art of the hunt. They would be his finest memories. He traveled many miles with Noel and Gary searching for the BIG ONE. No one could tell a fish story like Tex, shoot as many pheasant or kill the biggest deer. Tex also had a creative side.  He always grew the best tomatoes and had the most beautiful yard on the block. His wood carving was so beautiful. He spent his last year carving up a storm to finish up his projects. He also built fishing rods that were incredible. His talent was beyond words. Tex was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend. If you met him you were no longer a stranger. He loved his grandchildren and reveled in the little things with them. Fishing with the older ones, and snuggling with the little ones. There will not be a camping trip or fishing trip that will ever be the same. He was loved deeply and will be missed every day. Surviving Tex are: His wife Sandra, His sons Cody (Laura) Iverson, Travis Iverson, his daughter Kori (Mike) Ensley. His Grandchildren: Abby, Ally, Trever, and Lincoln Iverson, & Riley, Kamryn and Korbin Ensley. His sister and brother, numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and wonderful friends. The family requests that memorials be made in Tex’s name to Close to Home Hospice or The Legacy Living and Rehabilitation Center. Memorials and condolences may be sent in care of Walker Funeral Home 410 Medical Arts Court, Gillette, WY 82716. Condolences may also be expressed at www.walkerfuneralgillette.com
